Atlantic City, N.J. – Coast Guard rescue teams and a Navy ship responded to a vessel taking on water this afternoon approximately 60-miles northeast of Atlantic City.

The Texas, a 90-foot Motor Vessel homeported in New Bedford Mass., was transiting to Hati when they began to experience flooding. The Texas began to flood at around 11:00 and was not able to bring the flooding under control prompting a call for help from the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Group-Air Station Atlantic City launched a rescue helicopter and dispatched the Coast Guard cutter IBIS, an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in Cape May, to assist the M/V Texas. The USS Carney, homeported in Mayport, Fla., on its way to Fleet Week in New York City also arrived to assist the Texas.

Once on scene the crew of the rescue helicopter lowered two dewatering pumps to the crew of the Texas who were then able to control the flooding. The IBIS is escorting the Texas into Atlantic City.
